Background:
Kuro is a young girl that grew up in Cerulean City with her parents (Water Pokemon Researchers) and her sister Lizzie, who aspires to be a trainer as well.
When she was old enough to leave home to train Pokemon at the age of 14, she immediately signed up to compete in the Ultimate Pokemon Battle Frontier in 2010.
Kuro was eliminated in round 6, but she left the tournament with new experiences, strong friendships, and a drive to become the best trainer she could be.
She returned home to Cerulean to train with her sister, who is now old enough to journey away from home.
She was shocked when she received news from her friend K.C. about the events of last years BFOI, and the destruction done to the islands. It didn't take long for her to
decide to come to the aid of her old friend and move to Ohana Islands to live with her, and help her protect the islands in any way possible.

Trivia:

Kuro wears a blue ribbon given to her as a token by an old rival named Jikan, whom Kuro had hoped to see win, but was unfairly judged and eliminated.
She reluctantly kept going through the rounds and now continues to wear it as a reminder of their friendship and to be humble in the face of fallacy.

Kuro makes her own clothes. When she was young the sleeves on her hoodies were too long. She has since honed her skills in creating clothes.

For some reason all of Kuro's pokemon are male.

Kuro used to sleep in a tent on her Torterra Tururu's back.

Shelly was Kuro's first Pokemon, he prefers to relax and sleep in the waters of the beach, but he will fight and protect Kuro until the end of her journey.
They met when she was a little girl and he was a little Shellder that came bounding out of the water of the beach she lived on.
They became friends easily, and have been together ever since.

LUKAJI: Tropius | Male | Grass/Flying | Solar Power

Lukaji is one of the Pokemon that accompanied Kuro through the 2010 UBF. He is a loyal friend and Kuro's preferred Pokemon for transportation.
They met when Kuro and her little sister were playing in the neighborhood of their second home in Sunyshore. He was the caught by her sister, who was very small and not yet a skilled trainer.
He represents Kuro and her sister's bond and potential as Pokemon trainers.

NABU: Crawdaunt | Male | Water/Dark | Shell Armor
Crabhammer | Sludge Wave | Aerial Ace | Strength

Nabu was another of the Pokemon that helped Kuro through the UBF. He is a sturdy and stubborn Crawdaunt with a sense of parental protectiveness over Kuro and her other Pokemon.
He is hard-headed and strong. He helps Kuro and K.C. around the surf shop, carrying heavy things and organizing surfboards and other merchandise.

He has yet to learn the register.

WARRICK: Slowking | Male | Water/Psychic | Oblivious
Telekinesis | Fire Blast | Dragon Tail | Focus Punch

Warrick was a Slowpoke that met Kuro after the events of the UBF, when one of the Shellder's she was training bit him on the tail and turned him into a Slowbro.
She took it upon herself to train him until he evolved into a intelligent Slowking.
He spends his free time reading poetry and helping her train Pokemon for contests in intelligence.

His part in the surf shop is spent conversing with and entertaining customers.

FERDINAND: Oshawott | Male | Water | Torrent

Ferdinand is a small and ambitious Oshawott that seems to believe he is magical. He is a quick learner and very eager to try what Kuro teaches him. He is attracted to water and anything that sparkles or shines.
She found him one day examining her Shiny Crustle, and caught him easily while he was distracted. He enjoys riding around on its back, and pretending to cast spells with his contest wand.

KRACKY: Crustle | Male | Ground/Bug | Sturdy
Smack Down | Struggle Bug | Shadow Claw| Swagger

Kracky is Kuro's lucky shiny Crustle. He is timid and nervous nearly all the time, but good things always seem to happen to him, whether its winning contests or attracting magical Oshawotts.
Kuro found him in the dark of a small beach cave, and held on to him to find her way out. She befriended him in the dark before finding out he was shiny when they found the way into the sunlight outside.

"BERNINI" THE ELDER SHELLDER: Shellder | Male | Water | ???
??? | ??? | ??? | ???

Not much is known about this ancient Shellder. Not even its age. Kuro caught him at a small shrine on her first day on the islands.

She is not yet sure why he was there or why he appears to be an unevolved ancient Shellder. He refuses to fight or do anything beside sit and blink. Kuro keeps him as a pet (and a paperweight) in case he one day shows potential to be trained.

A strange aura emanates from him.
